"Maybe size doesnt matter, but the Human Faux Pas Collective is embarking on Canadas largest ever performance art tour "
What is performance art? Mixing aspects of theatre and visual arts, five young performance artists set out across the largest country in the world to let people know.
Travelling in a minivan and powered by a portable generator the Human Faux Pas Collective will be erecting their 1000 cubic foot transparent inflatable performance space in city centres and in galleries across Canada and the United States.
Adad Hannah, Dione Russell, Clay Hastings, David T. Cheong, and Mark Neufeld are The Human Faux Pas, a five-member performance art collective based in Vancouver. These twenty-something artists have been performing for British Columbian audiences for the last five years, and are thrilled to have the opportunity to spread their own unique take on performance art across this huge country.
American performance artist Wavy Gravy once declared that "the Human Faux Pas pushes the edges of the human envelope." On this tour they push the envelope even further by taking performance art out of the gallery and into the street.
In Greater Than Some of Our Parts, the performers identify their audience according to what they are wearing and then present them with miniature performance art kits. As with most Human Faux Pas performances, the line between performer and spectator is blurred leaving the audience with the impression that they themselves have become a part of the event.
How is such a revolutionary tour made possible? Through a generous grant for the Inter-Arts program of the Canada Council and the support of participating venues.
The Human Faux Pas will also be releasing their first radio single Untitled, which uses audio samples of live Human Faux Pas performances and is remixed by Baddd Spellah.
